After you select the "Only when the device is docked" option in the Distribute Software to Device Wizard, you cannot download a program to a Systems Management Server 2003 device client (890151)

SYMPTOMS

You have installed the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Device Management Feature Pack. You are using the Distribute Software to Device Wizard to distribute software to SMS 2003 clients that are mobile devices. When you select the Only when the device is docked option in the Program Properties page of the Distribute Software to Device Wizard, you cannot download a program to a device client until the device is docked. This behavior is by design.

Additionally, in this scenario, the program does not appear in Run Advertised Programs on the SMS device client until the device is docked. (Run Advertised Programs is located in Control Panel.)

Note The term "docked" implies that a device is connected to a computer by a Microsoft ActiveSync connection, such as when the device is in the manufacturer's cradle.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
