The Run Advertised Programs tool in Control Panel displays a numeric value instead of "Pending" or "Failed" on a Systems Management Server 2003 Device Client (890148)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003, when used with:
    • Microsoft Windows CE .NET

SYMPTOMS

Assume the following scenario: You the use Run Advertised Programs tool in Control Panel to run an advertised program on the following devices that have the Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 Device Client installed:
  • Microsoft Windows CE 3.0
  • Microsoft Windows Pocket PC 2002
  • Microsoft Windows Mobile Pocket PC 2003
If the SMS client cannot download the program, the advertised program appears as "Failed" in the Run Advertised Programs tool. However, when you try to run another advertised program, a numeric value may appear in the Run Advertised Programs tool instead of a "Pending" or "Failed" response.

CAUSE

The problem occurs when an advertised program that is in a "Failed" state exists in the Run Advertised Programs tool on the SMS client. When you try to run another advertised program in this scenario, the size of the package, in kilobytes (KB), appears next to the program instead of "Pending" in the Run Advertised Programs tool.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
