INTRODUCTION
This article describes the Microsoft Excel 2002 issues that
are fixed in the Excel 2002 post-Service Pack 3 hotfix package that is dated
November 19, 2004.

This hotfix package also fixes the following issues that were not
previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
- When you open a protected Excel 2002 workbook that contains
a PivotTable, you may receive the following error message:
Unable to read file
This problem occurs if
the following events occur:
- The workbook has the AutoRecovery feature turned
on.
- Excel has saved at least one AutoRecovery file for the
workbook.
- You saved the workbook before you close it.
If you turn off the AutoRecovery feature for the workbook,
you may reduce the occurrence of this problem.
- When you open a workbook, you may receive the following
Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) error messages:
The VBA controls do not load after you receive these error
messages.
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
- The workbook was created in Microsoft Excel 2002
Service Pack 3 (SP3).
- The workbook dynamically loads a Microsoft Office Excel
Add-in (.xla) when you open the workbook.
- The add-in loads
VBA controls when you open the workbook.

Service Pack 3 (SP3) hotfix. To install the hotfix, you must have Office XP SP3
installed.

- The optimized version of this hotfix requires Microsoft
Windows Installer version 2.0 or a later version.

330537 Office XP updates and patches released after September 2002 may require Windows Installer 2.0
- The full-file version of this hotfix is also the
administrative version of this hotfix. You can install this version of the
hotfix on a computer that is running Office XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). However,
we have tested this fix on Office XP SP3 more extensively than we have on
Office XP SP2. If you install this hotfix on a computer that is running Office
XP SP2, some file conflicts might occur. We support this configuration, but we
do not recommend this configuration.
