SYMPTOMS

When text is formatted with a specific font in a Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 presentation, the ending characters of the text are missing.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when PowerPoint 2002 is missing font information for the specific font.

RESOLUTION

How to obtain the hotfix

This issue is fixed in the PowerPoint 2002 post-Service Pack 3 Hotfix Package that is dated November 10, 2004. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

After you install this hotfix, follow the steps that are listed in the "More Information" section of this article to set the PPTForceFontEnum registry key and to activate the hotfix.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

Close your PowerPoint 2002 presentation, and then reopen your presentation.

Method 2

Expand the Font box on the Formatting toolbar.

Note Both of these methods cause the font information to be enumerated (refreshed) in PowerPoint 2002.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

To enable this hotfix, follow these steps:

Quit PowerPoint 2002.
Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate and then click to select the following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\PowerPoint\Options
After you select the key that is specified in step 3, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click DWORD Value.
Type PPTForceFontEnum, and then press ENTER.
Right-click PPTForceFontEnum, and then click Modify.
In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.
