SYMPTOMS
The Distribution Manager component in Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 does not recognize SMSSocket Sender, from 1E. After you click
Socket Sender in the
Preferred sender list of the package properties, Distribution Manager does not recognize the sender type when it creates the
.job file. An error message that is similar to the following appears in the SMS\Logs\Distmgr.log file:
Preferred sender SMS_1ESOCK_SENDER for package XXXXXXXX has a unknown type, cannot convert it to an address type.

Hotfix

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Systems Management Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.

- Copy Sms2003-sp1-kb890038-x86-xxx.exe to a local folder on the site server or to a shared network folder.
