LANMAN.INI Services Section (89406)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft LAN Manager 2.1
This article was previously published under Q89406 SUMMARY
This information applies to Microsoft LAN Manager version 2.1 running
with Microsoft OS/2 versions 1.21 and 1.3 and Microsoft MS-DOS versions
3.3 and later.
The services section of the LANMAN.INI file on your workstation lists
the paths to all LAN Manager services. LAN Manager checks the values
in the services section when you start a service. Each of these services
may require resident memory in order to perform their function.
MORE INFORMATION
Information about each of these services follows:
Chknet (optional). Checks to see if the network has already started.
You do not need to remove it unless you are desperate for disk space.
Chknet is not a terminate-and-stay-resident (TSR) program and therefore
doesn't require any resident memory.
Minses (required). Provides the interface between LAN Manager for MS-DOS
and the NetBIOS. It takes Interrupt 2ah network requests and converts them
to Interrupt 5ch NetBIOS requests. The command line parameter /q disables
beeping while establishing a network connection. Parameter /n allows
Minses to load without checking to see if a transport exists.
Netwksta (required). It is the redirector.
Msrv (optional). Allows your system to receive messages from the network
(for example, through the NET SEND command) and write them to the end of
the LANMAN\LOGS\MESSAGE.LOG file. If Netpopup is running, Netpopup also
displays the message(s) on your screen.
Netpopup (optional). Allows you to receive NET SEND messages on your
screen. Netpopup requires Msrv to be running.
Minipop (optional). It is an XOR for Netpopup, but instead of popping
up, it defers to the WINPOPUP.EXE application for Microsoft Windows
(when Windows is running). This saves RAM between the messenger (Msrv)
and Winpopup.
Encrypt (optional). Encrypts some passwords that are otherwise sent over
the network raw.
