SUMMARY

You can use the Save Workspace command to automatically open several files when you start Microsoft Works for Windows; however, you can save only one workspace at a time.

To use multiple workspaces, use Program Manager to create an icon that includes the files you want to open in its command line. For this method to work correctly, you must clear the Use Saved Workspace check box in the Works Settings dialog box (accessed by choosing Works Settings from the Options menu). Also, with this method it is not possible to save the size and position of the Works for Windows documents, as you can with the Save Workspace command.

MORE INFORMATION

From the Program Manager File menu, choose New to create a program icon in a given group. This icon should have the following properties:

  • Description: <caption for the icon> - optional
  • Command Line: <Works path>\msworks.exe <file1> <file2> <file3>...
  • Working Directory: <Works for Windows directory> - optional
Note: If the files to be opened are not in the working directory, their paths must be included with their names.

For example, if your Works for Windows directory is C:\MSWORKS and you want to open the files MYFILE.WDB and YOURFILE.WDB when you start Works, set up an icon in Program Manager with the following properties:

  • Description: Favorite Workspace
  • Command Line: c:\msworks\msworks.exe MYFILE.WDB YOURFILE.WDB
When you double-click the icon, the files open automatically.
