SYMPTOMS

When you change the work of a resource assignment after a task is 100 percent complete, incorrect values appear in the Resource Usage view. Also, Actual Start and Finish dates and the Percent Complete for the task are not recalculated.

CAUSE

When you change the work of a resource assignment after a task is 100 percent complete, the Resource Usage Work incorrectly uses the old resource work. The Resource Usage Cost is incorrectly based on the sum of the new and old resource work.

The Resource Usage Cumulative Work uses the new or old work, depending on what part of the timescale is visible. The Resource Usage Cumulative Cost is incorrectly based on the old work or the sum of the new and old work, depending on what part of the timescale is visible.

The Start and Finish dates for the task are not updated, and the Percent Complete value does not change, even if you have increased the amount of work assigned to the resource, so that the task has not been completed.

WORKAROUND

To avoid displaying incorrect values in the Resource Usage view, and incorrect dates for the task, enter a value less than 100 percent as the percent complete for the task, and then enter 100 percent again.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Enter a task T1 with a duration of 1d.
  2. Assign a resource R1 to T1, 1 unit, 8h work, standard rate $10/h.
  3. Set T1 to 100 percent complete.
  4. Change the assigned work for R1 to 4h.

NOTE: The duration correctly becomes .5d, but the dates don't change.
  5. From the View menu, choose Resource Usage. From the Format menu, choose Work. Format the timescale for weeks over days. It incorrectly shows 8h on the day T1 is scheduled, instead of the correct 4h.
  6. From the Format menu, choose Cost. It incorrectly shows $120.00 on the day T1 is scheduled instead of the correct $40.00. It bases the incorrect result on the sum of the original and new work hours.
  7. From the Format menu, choose Cumulative Work. As long as the day T1 is scheduled is visible, it incorrectly shows 8h each day. If you scroll right so the day T1 is scheduled is not visible, all the 8h entries change to the correct 4h.
  8. Choose Cumulative Cost from the Format menu. As long as the day T1 is scheduled is visible, it incorrectly shows $120.00 each day instead of the correct $40.00. If you scroll right so the day T1 is scheduled is not visible, all the $120.00 entries change to the incorrect value $80.00.
