Users can recover deleted items in Outlook 2003, even though you have configured Exchange Server 2003 not to keep deleted items (889680)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Enterprise Edition

SYMPTOMS

A user is running Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 in cached mode. The user connects to a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 mailbox, and then the user deletes an item from his or her mailbox. Then, the user synchronizes his or her mailbox with the Exchange server. The deleted item still appears when the user recovers deleted items in Outlook 2003. This behavior occurs even though you have configured Exchange 2000 Server not to keep deleted items. To do this, you have set the Keep deleted items for (days) setting to 0 in Exchange Server 2003.
