Individual list items are not displayed in the search results in SharePoint Portal Server 2003 (889650)

SYMPTOMSWhen you search for content that is stored in a list on a Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 portal site, individual items that are contained in that list are not returned in the search results. That is, a link to the list is displayed in the search results. However, links to individual items in that list are not displayed in the search results. When you try to search for content that is stored in a list on a Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 portal site, you receive the following error message: No Items were found matching your query. CAUSEThis issue occurs if the site path rule of the content source is not configured to crawl individual list items. By default, lists in SharePoint Portal Server 2003 are crawled as one item. To crawl each item in a list, the site path rule must use the Crawl individual SharePoint list items option.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, create a new site path rule that uses the Crawl individual SharePoint list items option. After you do this, links to individual list items are displayed in the search results. Follow these steps to create a new site path rule that uses the Crawl individual SharePoint list items option: - Delete the default site path rule that is configured for the content source. To do this, follow these steps:
- Connect to the portal site, and then click Site Settings.
- Under Search Settings and Indexed Content on the Site Settings page, click Configure search and indexing.
- Under Other Content Sources on the Configure Search and Indexing page, click Manage content sources.
- Click the down arrow that is next to the This portal content source, and then click Edit.
- At the bottom of the Existing Web page or of the Web site content source page, click Advanced.
- In the More Information area of the Configure Web page or of the Web site Content Source page, click Exclude and Include Content
- Click the down arrow that is next to the http://PathofPortalSite - Included entry, and then click Delete.
- When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click OK.
- Create a new site path rule. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click New Rule.
- In the Path area, type http://PathofPortalSite in the Path box.
- In the Crawl Configuration area, click to select the Include all items in this path check box, and then click to select the Crawl individual SharePoint list items check box.
- In the Specify Authentication area, specify the crawling account that you want to use, and then click OK.
Note Removing the default site path rule and adding a new site path rule may affect the relevance of the search results.
- Perform a full update of content on the portal site. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Site Settings.
- Under Search Settings and Indexed Content on the Site Settings page, click Configure search and indexing.
- Under General Content Settings and Indexing Status on the Configure Search and Indexing page, click Full next to Start portal content update.
