You receive a "Microsoft Office Project is currently installed" error message when you try to install Project Standard 2003 (889503)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to run the Microsoft Office Project Standard 2003 Setup program, you may receive one of the following error messages.

Error message 1

Microsoft Office Project is currently installed. Please uninstall it first, and then launch setup again.

Error message 2

An evaluation version of Microsoft Office Project is currently installed. Please uninstall the Trial version first, and then launch setup again.

You may receive either error message even though you have removed Project Standard 2003 or the Project Standard 2003 trial version from your computer.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if a registry key for Project Standard 2003 contains a value that is incorrect or that has become corrupted. The value can become corrupted if Project Standard 2003 or the Project Standard 2003 trial version is not removed from your computer correctly.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, force the Setup program to ignore previous installations of Project Standard 2003. Then, run the Setup program. To do this, follow these steps.

Put your Project 2003 Standard CD in your CD drive.
Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then press ENTER.
At the command prompt, type the letter of your CD drive followed by a colon (:), and then press ENTER. For example, if your CD drive is drive D, type D:
Type the following, and then press ENTER:
setup oem_noprevious=1
After the installation is complete, click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
Under Currently installed programs, click Microsoft Office Project Standard 2003, and then click Remove.
Click Yes to verify that you want to remove Project Standard 2003 from your computer.
After Project Standard 2003 is removed from your computer, run the Project Standard 2003 Setup program without the oem_noprevious=1 command-line option.
