You receive an "Error 1308" error message when you try to create an administrative image of Office 2003 Web Components (889502)

SYMPTOMS

If you download and extract the Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components that are available from the Microsoft Download Center, and then you try to create an administrative image of the files by using the command line Drive_letter:\Path\setup.exe /a, you may receive the following error message:

Error 1308. Setup cannot find the required file Drive_letter:\Path\SETUP.HTM. Check your connection to the network, or CD-ROM drive. For other potential solutions to this problem, see Drive_letter:\Path\FILES\PFILES\MSOFFICE\OFFICE11\1033\SETUP.CHM.

If you click Ignore, the Office 2003 Web Components are extracted to the folder that you selected during setup.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Office 2003 Web Components that are available from the Microsoft Download Center do not extract the Setup.htm file from the OWC11.exe file or from the OWC11.msi file. The Office 2003 Web Components Setup program searches for the Setup.htm file when the administrative image is created.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use the Office 2003 Web Components Setup program that is located on the Microsoft Office 2003 Professional Edition installation CD. The Setup program is located in the following folder on the installation CD:

CD_drive:\FILES\OWC11

You can use the /a Setup switch to create an administrative image by using the Office 2003 Web Components Setup program that is located on the Office 2003 Professional Edition installation CD.
