Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • No option to update a user's logon name in Windows SharePoint Services after you make changes to the user account properties in Active Directory directory service

In Active Directory, you modify the properties of a user account, such as the user's e-mail address, display name, and logon name. In Windows SharePoint Services, you can manually modify the e-mail address and the display name of the user when you click the name of that user on the Manage Site Collection Users page. However, there is no option to modify the logon name for that user. You have to remove the user from Windows SharePoint Services, re-add the user with the new logon name, and then configure the user with the appropriate permissions to the Web sites that the user needs to access.
  • Performance of Windows SharePoint Services may decrease in certain environments when you enable usage analysis processing

You configure usage analysis processing in Windows SharePoint Services. The usage analysis processing process updates the values in the LastContentChange column in the Webs table of the content database. This action causes the search component in Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 to recrawl the content and to update the content index. Performance may decrease in certain situations because of the additional processing that is required to update the content index.
