SYMPTOMS

You cannot create an administrative installation image of Microsoft Office XP Web Components by using the Office 2003 Setup program. If you use the Office 2003 Setup program to create an administrative installation image of Office XP Web Components that you obtained from the Microsoft Download Center, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms:
  • The Setup program does not run.
  • The Setup program does not install Office XP Web Components.
  • You receive the following error message:

Error 1308. Setup cannot find the required file drive:_or_\\share\path\INSTMSI.EXE. Check your connection to the network, or CD-ROM drive. For other potential solutions to this problem, see FILES\PFILES\MSOFFICE\OFFICE10\1033\SETUP.HLP.
You may experience these symptoms if you use the /a command-line switch as in the following command-line example:

msiexec.exe /a path\owc10se.msi

CAUSE

This problem may occur because of an interaction between the IExpress Deployment Kit (IDK) and the Office XP Web Components Setup program.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.

Office 2003 Setup CD

You can create an administrative installation image if you run the Office XP Web Components Setup program from the Office 2003 Setup CD, and you include the following syntax:

CD_drive:\FILES\OWC10\Setup.exe /a

Network share

The Office XP Web Components Setup program for Office XP Web Components that are obtained from the Microsoft Download Center can be run from a network share. If you run this Setup program (Owc10se.msi) from a network share, you can deploy Office XP Web Components to client computers without creating an administrative installation image.
