SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003, the SMS client Setup program stops responding before it creates any log files, and you experience one or more of the following symptoms:
  • New SMS clients are not installed.
  • Existing SMS clients are not upgraded.
  • SMS client software is not removed.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you use long account names in your environment.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

The Temp folder path that the SMS client Setup program uses includes the domain name and the user name that you use to log on to the computer. The length of the Temp folder path is limited to 255 characters. The SMS client Setup program uses the Temp folder path to temporarily store log files and .ini files.
