You cannot build or update an OLAP cube and "0x80004005" error messages are logged to the Application log in Project Server 2003 and in Project Server 2002 (888639)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to build or update an online analytical processing (OLAP) cube in Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 or in Microsoft Project 2002, the operation is not completed successfully. An event error message that is similar to the following is logged to the Application log in Event Viewer:

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the data source name (DSN) on the server is damaged. Additionally, this issue may occur after you use the EditSite tool in Project Server 2003 or after you use the Site Editor tool in Project Server 2002 to modify information in your Project Server 2003 or Project Server 2002 Web site.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, reset the DSN.

To do this, follow these steps:

If you are running Project Server 2003, start the EditSite tool. If you are running Project Server 2002, start the Site Editor tool.
In the DSN Name box under Site Information, rename the existing DSN by adding a number to the end of the name.

For example, if you are running Project Server 2002 and the name of the DSN is PC10DSN, rename the DSN to PC10DSN1.
Click Save, and then click Yes when you are prompted to delete the old DSN.
When you receive the message that the changes that you made are saved, click OK.
In the DSN Name box under Site Information, change the name of the DSN to the original name. To do this, remove the number that you added to the end of the name so that the DSN uses the original name of the DSN.

For example, if you renamed the DSN to PC10DSN1 in step 2, change the name to PC10DSN.
Click Save, and then click Yes when you are prompted to delete the old DSN.
When you receive the message that the changes that you made are saved, click OK.
To verify that connection parameters are configured correctly, click Test under Virtual Directory,
Click OK, and then click Exit.
