Recorded TV displays multiple recordings for a single recorded TV program in Windows XP Media Center Edition (888569)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition

SYMPTOMS

You view Recorded TV in Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition, and a single recorded TV program appears as multiple files instead of a single file. This behavior occurs even though the recorded TV show is configured as a non-series recording.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when a TV signal loss that exceeds two seconds is detected. When the signal loss is detected, a stop message is sent to prevent corruption during the recording. When the signal is detected again, a start message is sent.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior helps prevent file corruption and can also assist in the recording of a complete show. If this behavior occurs regularly, use Windows Update to search for recent driver updates for Windows XP Media Center Edition. An updated driver may help lower the signal detection threshold. To look for driver updates, click Start, and then click Windows Update.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
