FIX: Error message when you try to compile an application that is built by using Visual C++ .NET 2003: "Internal compiler error" (888256)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to compile an application that is built by using Microsoft Visual C++ .NET 2003, you may receive the following error message:
Fatal Error C1001: Internal Compiler Error (compiler file 'msc1.cpp', line 2701)

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Visual C++ compiler cannot set up the delete method of an object when an unexpected error occurs in the constructor method of the object.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.
