SYMPTOMSWhen you try to print or to view a print preview of a Web page in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, the Print Preview program may stop responding. If you close the Print Preview window, Internet Explorer quits and you may receive the following error message:
Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.
CAUSEThis problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
- The Web page contains a table that has smaller tables nested within this table.
- The table and nested tables span across one or more printed pages.
- The Web page uses a cascading style sheet to format the table.
- The cascading style sheet formatting sets the padding for each row element to a value that is more than zero pixels.
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, the Web page owner can make either of the following modifications:
- Type padding: 0px; in the cascading style sheet entry that sets the padding for each row.
- Move the nested tables out of the table that they are nested in.
Change the padding valueTo change the padding value for each row of a table, follow these steps: - Open the Web page in Microsoft FrontPage.
- On the Format menu, click Style Sheet Links.
- Click Selected page(s).
- Click the URL of the cascading style sheet file page, and then click Edit.
- Locate the cascading style sheet format for row elements.
- Type padding: 0px;
to change the padding entry.
- On the File menu, click Save.
- On the File menu, click Close.
