The "Write these files to CD" option is not available in Windows Explorer after a Group Policy setting is applied in Windows XP (888083)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Windows XP, when you right-click a CD drive that contains a writable CD in Windows Explorer, the Write these files to CD option is not available.

CAUSE

This problem may occur for new users of the client computer after the "Devices: Restrict CD-ROM access to locally logged-on user only" Group Policy setting is applied. This problem does not affect an existing user whose user profile was created before applying the Group Policy setting.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows XP service pack that contains this hotfix.
