CAUSE

This problem occurs when the line LegacyNIC = 1 is missing from the Ristndrd.sif file. The Ristndrd.sif file is located in the I386 folder of the corresponding backing Risetup image on the RIS server.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you have to add the line LegacyNIC = 1 to the Ristndrd.sif file before you create the Windows XP Riprep image. The Ristndrd.sif file that you have to modify must be in the following folder: RemoteInstall\Setup\Language\Images\Dir_name\I386.

Note The Ristndrd.sif file that you have to modify is located in the backing Risetup image for the Riprep image (the CD-based image). For example, if you are uploading a Windows XP Service Pack 1 Riprep image, the backing image (CD-based) is the Windows XP Service Pack 1 RIS image. In this example, the Ristndrd.sif file is in the following folder: RemoteInstall\Setup\Language\Images\Backing_Risetup_image\I386.

To modify the Ristndrd.sif file, follow these steps:
  1. In Notepad, open the Ristndrd.sif file.
  2. Locate the [Unattended] section.
  3. In the [Unattended] section, type LegacyNIC = 1.
  4. Save the file, and then close Notepad.
