FIX: You receive an error message when you try to use the Sos.dll debugging extension in the .NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 2 (887807)

SYMPTOMS

In the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2), when you try to use the Sos.dll debugging tool extension, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following when you run an Sos.dll command:
failed to load from resource. Failed to load SOS data.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Sos.dll extension cannot locate the .bin files that are required for the Sos.dll extension to operate correctly.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next .NET Framework 1.0 service pack that contains this hotfix.

MORE INFORMATION

With this hotfix, the .bin file information is now included in the Mscorwks.dll and Mscorsvr.dll files. Therefore, the .bin files are no longer needed for the Sos.dll extension to operate correctly.
