The Shut Down Guest OS option is not available on Windows NT 4.0-based virtual machines in Virtual Server 2005 (887732)

SYMPTOMS

When you run a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based virtual machine in Microsoft Virtual Server 2005, you do not have the option to shut down the virtual machine. For example, the Shut Down Guest OS option does not appear in the Control Virtual Machine area of the administration Web page.

CAUSE

This symptom occurs because Windows NT 4.0 does not support the Shut Down Guest OS functionality that Virtual Server 2005 uses.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
