You can save a Word 2003 document to a new location when the document's attached template does not have EXPORT permissions and is protected with IRM (887718)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Office Word 2003
SYMPTOMSAssume a situation where you open a document in Microsoft Office Word 2003 that was created by using a template that is protected with Information Rights Management (IRM). The document's attached template does not have EXPORT permissions.
In this situation, the Save As menu option is still available on the File menu in Word 2003. Additionally, you can save the document to an alternative location. CAUSEThis behavior is by design. When the document's attached template does not have EXPORT permissions and is protected with IRM, you can only save the document by using the Word Document (*.doc) option or the Document Template (*.dot) option. All other options in the Save As dialog box are not available.MORE INFORMATIONWhen you save a copy of a document in Word 2003, the document will retain the same IRM rights that are contained in the attached template.
When you copy a document in Windows Explorer to a new location with a different file name, the new copy of the document will also retain the same IRM rights that are contained in the attached template.
Additionally, when the document's attached template does not have EXPORT permissions, you cannot use the open documents file name to save the document.REFERENCESFor more information about Information Rights Management in Microsoft Office 2003, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
