Word for Windows e-mail attachments do not display correctly in Word X for Mac (887300)

SYMPTOMS

When you receive an e-mail attachment that is a Microsoft Word document from a Microsoft Windows version of Word and then open the document in Microsoft Word X for Mac, the formatting and the layout of the document does not match how the document appears in a Windows version of Word.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the Word X Compatibility preferences are set for an earlier version of Word for Windows or Microsoft Word for Mac.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. On the Word menu, click Preferences.
  2. Click Compatibility.
  3. In the Recommended options for list, click Word 2000-2002 and X.
  4. Click OK.
