You receive an error message when you try to manually put your Windows XP-based computer on standby after you install the Fingerprint Reader (887282)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to manually put your Microsoft Windows XP-based computer on standby after you install the Microsoft Fingerprint Reader or the Microsoft Optical Desktop with Fingerprint Reader, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
The driver from USB Composite Device is preventing the system from entering standby.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if the Fingerprint Reader is configured to wake your computer from standby.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type Sysdm.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
  3. Expand Biometric, right-click Microsoft Fingerprint Reader, and then click Properties.
  4. On the Power Management tab, click to clear the Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby check box, and then click OK.
  5. Close Device Manager.
