SYMPTOMS

When you connect your Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005-based computer to an RF TV antenna, and then you use the Automatic TV Signal Setup Wizard to configure the TV signal, Media Center may incorrectly detect your RF TV antenna connection as a cable set-top box.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the antenna signal is weak or if only a few channels are detected in the RF TV antenna range.

WORKAROUND

When Media Center incorrectly detects your TV antenna connection as a set-top box connection, you are prompted with the following message: What do you want to do? When you receive this message, select Manually configure the TV signal, and then manually configure your TV signal connection type as antenna.

To manually add the RF TV antenna input, follow these steps:
  1. Press START on the remote, and then select Settings.
  2. Select TV, and then select Setup TV Signal.
  3. In the Set up your TV signal window, select Next.
  4. In the TV Signal window, select your region. For example, select United States.
  5. In the Automatic TV Signal Setup window, select I will manually configure my TV signal, and then select Next.
  6. In the What type of TV signal do you receive window, select the appropriate technology. For example, select Cable or digital, Satellite, or Antenna.
  7. Follow the remaining steps in the TV Signal Wizard to complete the installation.

STATUS
