Sound for MPEG movies may not play through a Media Center Extender device in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 (887214)

SYMPTOMS

When you play a MPEG movie in Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 through a Media Center Extender device, the sound for the movie may not play. Additionally, the Finished page does not appear when the video stops playing.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the MPEG movie uses an audio track that uses a sample rate of 144 kilohertz (kHz) with AC3 2-channel audio. Media Center Extender cannot translate this sample rate.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
