  • Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

SYMPTOMS

If you install a DivX-compatible player in Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, you may not be able to watch Live TV or to play DVD movies. In this scenario, Media Center may stop responding.

CAUSE

Some DivX-compatible players are not compatible with Media Center. These players can cause conflicts with Media Center that make your system unresponsive.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you must restore your computer to a restoration point that existed before you installed the DivX-compatible player. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.
  2. Click to select the Restore my computer to an earlier time check box, and then click Next.
  3. Select a system restoration date that occurred before the installation of the DivX player, and then select the system restoration file from the list of restoration points.
  4. Click Next.
If you did not create a restoration point, you must reinstall both Windows XP and Media Center on your computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
