Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 stops responding when you watch Live TV after you install a DivX-compatible player (887211)

SYMPTOMSIf you install a DivX-compatible player in Microsoft
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, you may not be able to watch Live TV or
to play DVD movies. In this scenario, Media Center may stop responding.CAUSESome DivX-compatible players are not compatible with Media Center. These players
can cause conflicts with Media Center that make your system unresponsive.WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, you must restore your computer
to a restoration point that existed before you installed the DivX-compatible player. To do this, follow these
steps:
- Click Start, point to
Programs, point to Accessories, point to
System Tools, and then click System Restore.
- Click to select the Restore my computer to an
earlier time check box, and then click Next.
- Select a system restoration date that occurred before the installation
of the DivX player, and then select the system restoration file from the list of
restoration points.
- Click Next.
If you did not create a restoration point, you must reinstall both Windows XP and Media Center on your
computer. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
