The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005

SYMPTOMS

After you copy a Music CD, and you open My Music and select a genre, the following metadata titles appear in a language other than the default language for your installation of Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005:
  • MY MUSIC
  • Albums
  • Artist
  • Playlists
  • Songs
  • Search

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the first Music CD that you copy contains metadata in a language other than the default language for your installation of Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, you can remove all the music tracks for the specific genre that show the wrong language, and then copy a different music CD thaty contains metatags for the language that you want. Future music CDs that you copy for that genre will use the same language as the first music CD that you copy.

To remove all the tracks for a specific genre, follow these steps:
  1. Close Media Center, and then open Microsoft Windows Media Player.

Note to open Windows Media Player, click Start point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Entertainment, and then click Windows Media Player.
  2. In Windows Media Player, click the Library tab.
  3. Expand All Music, expand Genre, and then click the genre that you want to change.
  4. Do any one of the following:
    • Right-click the genre, and then click Rename. Type a new name for the genre.
    • Select all the music tracks listed in the genre, and then drag those tracks to a different genre.
    • Select all the music tracks listed in the genre, right-click the listed genre for any track, click Edit, and then type a new genre name.
