A problem may occur when a Windows Mobile device is powered off while the device is playing a .wma file or an .mp3 file (887201)

SYMPTOMS

If a Microsoft Windows Mobile device is powered off while the device is playing a .wma file or an .mp3 file from a Compact Flash (CF) card or from a secure digital (SD) memory card, you may receive one of the following error messages. The error messages may appear when you restart the device, and then you tap Play in Microsoft Windows Media Player for Pocket PC.

Error message 1

Windows Media Player cannot play this file.

Error Message 2

Windows Media Player cannot play this file. The file cannot be found or the file type is not valid. Verify that your network connection settings are correct, or that any required storage cards are available.

WORKAROUND

After you receive an error message, tap OK. Then, if you tap Play, playback may restart. If playback does not restart, you may have to open the file again to start playback.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

This problem has been resolved in Microsoft Window Mobile 2003 software for Pocket PC version 4.20.0, Build 14053, AKU 2. Microsoft does not offer upgrades for Pocket PC or for Windows Mobile devices. Contact the device manufacturer for the availability of this version of the operating system for a specific device.
