Windows XP stops responding after your Windows XP-based computer resumes from hibernation and then you safely remove a USB floppy disk drive (887173)

SYMPTOMS

After your Microsoft Windows XP-based computer resumes from hibernation, and then you use the Safely Remove Hardware function to remove a USB floppy disk drive, the computer stops responding (hangs).

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing.
