SYMPTOMS

You run the Microsoft Office Access 2003 Developer Extensions (ADE) package wizard. You select an install language in the Installer Experience window. When you do this, you may receive the following message:

The install files for Language need to be cached before this language can be selected. To cache the install files you will have to specify any CD or folder that contains the full version of Access 2003, for example, Microsoft Office 2003 Professional or Microsoft Office Access 2003 stand-alone. Would you like to cache the Language install files now?

You click Yes, and then you try to locate the Setup.exe file in the Select Setup.exe dialog box. However, you cannot find the Setup.exe file in the root folder of your Microsoft Office 2003 Setup CD.

Note This issue does not apply to Office 2003 Standard Edition because it does not include Access.

CAUSE

The Office 2003 Volume Licensed Setup CD uses a different way to start the application Setup program. The different way is described in the "Resolution" section.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, you have to create a folder on your hard disk that mirrors the structure of the Office 2003 Setup CD. Then, you have to point the ADE package wizard at that folder to cache the runtime components and the Setup components. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type explorer, and then click OK.
  2. Click Tools, click Folder Options, and then click the View tab.
  3. In Advanced Settings, click to select the Show hidden files and folders check box, and then click OK.
  4. Locate the following folders, right-click each folder, and then click Delete.
    • C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Access\ADE11\Cache\1033\Accessrt.msi
    • C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Microsoft\Access\ADE11\Cache\1033\Accessrt.cab

Note These folders may not exist on your computer.
  5. Right-click C:, and then click Open.
  6. Right-click in the window, point to New, click Folder, type Source, and then press ENTER.
  7. Double-click the Source folder.
  8. Right-click in the window, point to New, click Folder, type Files, and then press ENTER.
  9. Double-click the CD drive that contains the Office 2003 Setup CD.
  10. Right-click Setupacc.exe, and the click Copy.
  11. Locate and then double-click the C:\Source folder.
  12. Right-click in the window, and then click Paste.
  13. Right-click Setupacc.exe, click Rename, type Setup.exe, and then press ENTER.
  14. Right-click the ACCRT folder under the Files folder on the Office 2003 Setup CD, and then click Copy.
  15. Locate and then double-click the C:\Source folder.
  16. Double-click the Files folder, right-click in the window, and then click Paste.
  17. Run the ADE package wizard.
  18. When you are prompted to find the Setup.exe file, click C:\Source\Setup.exe.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

If there are lots of users who have to access the ADE package wizard, you may want to put the Source folder on a network share.
