Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Internet Explorer 6 service pack that contains this hotfix.

The dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated universal time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. After you apply this hotfix, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate the following registry key:

   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

3. Right-click the registry key that you located in step 2, click New, and then click Key.
4. Type FeatureControl, and then press ENTER.
5. Right-click FeatureControl, click New, and then click Key.
6. Type FEATURE_WAIT_TIME_THREAD_TERMINATE_KB886801, and then press ENTER.
7. Right-click FEATURE_WAIT_TIME_THREAD_TERMINATE_KB886801, click New, and then click DWORD Value.
8. Type the process name of the program that you want to configure. For example, to configure Internet Explorer, type Iexplore.exe.
9. Right-click the process name that you typed in step 8, and then click Modify.
10. In the Value data box, type 00000001, and then click OK.
11. Right-click FEATURE_WAIT_TIME_THREAD_TERMINATE_KB886801, click New, and then click Key.
12. Type Settings, and then press ENTER.
13. Right-click Settings, click New, and then click DWORD Value.
14. Type ThreadTerminateWaitTime, and then press ENTER.
15. Right-click ThreadTerminateWaitTime, and then click Modify.
16. In the Value data box, type 000007d0, and then click OK.
    
    Note You can modify this value to create a longer delay or a shorter delay.
17. On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.
