SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Visual J# .NET 2003, when you use the String.hashCode method, you notice that the Visual J# implementation is slower than the Microsoft Visual C# implementation. Therefore, if you use the String.hashCode method frequently in your Visual J# .NET application, you may experience slow performance.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Visual J# implementation of the String.hashCode method performs a high volume of char[] allocations compared with the Visual C# implementation.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.
