SYMPTOMS

The Local Security Authority Subsystem (Lsass.exe) process stops responding on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based domain controller. Local Security Authority Subsystem process stops responding, the Windows Server 2003-based domain controller shuts down.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if a malformed Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) request is sent by a client program.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article. This problem was corrected in Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1.
