The sound scheme is set to No Sounds, but some event sounds occur after you install Windows XP Service Pack 2 (886691)

SYMPTOMS

After you install Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 on a Microsoft Windows XP Professional-based computer that has the sound scheme set to No Sounds, the following program events are turned on, and you hear a sound when the events occur:
  • Blocked Pop-up Window
  • Information Bar

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type mmsys.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. On the Sounds tab, follow these steps:
    1. Under Program events, click Blocked Pop-up Window.
    2. In the Sounds list, click (None).
    3. Under Program events, click Information Bar.
    4. In the Sounds list, click (None).
  3. Click OK to close the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties dialog box.
