INTRODUCTION

A Microsoft Application Center 2000 feature clears the Register this connection's addresses in DNS check box. By default, Application Center 2000 configures the network adaptors that are used for Network Load Balancing (NLB) not to register themselves with the Domain Name System (DNS). This feature is used to reduce the chance that the cluster members will try to communicate with each other through an IP address that is bound to the load balanced network adaptors. Communication fails if the cluster members try to communicate with each other in this manner.

Sometimes, this feature can be disabled in Application Center 2000 without a problem. We do not recommend changing this setting. However, if you do want to disable this feature in Application Center 2000, you must make sure that the names of all the cluster nodes resolve to the IP addresses of their respective management network adaptors.

MORE INFORMATION

There is a metabase property in Application Center 2000 that stops Application Center 2000 from clearing the Register this connection's addresses in DNS check box. To set the metabase property entry, you must use the Mdutil.exe file utility that is located in the \Support folder of the original Application Center 2000 installation CD. Other versions of the Mdutil.exe do not correctly enumerate the Application Center 2000 properties. To set the metabase property entry, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
  2. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER.

    mdutil set appcenter/server -prop 57450 -dtype dword -value 1

    After you run this command, the following appears:

    57450                         : []      (DWORD)  0x1={1}

  3. Type exit to close the Command Prompt window.
  4. To make sure that the new metabase property entry is added to the metabase, run the following command to enumerate that part of the metabase:

    mdutil enum appcenter/server
