  • Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003, Premium Edition
  • Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003, Standard Edition

INTRODUCTION

When you use the Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 Backup or Restore Wizard to back up your server, you can save the backup files to a network share. This network share must be correctly configured for the Backup or Restore Wizard to successfully write the backup files.

MORE INFORMATION

To use the Backup or Restore Wizard to save backup files to a network share, the following conditions must be true:
  • The Domain Admins security group must have Full Control permissions on the network share and on the NTFS file system where the backup files are saved.
  • The network share computer must be a member of the Small Business Server domain.
Note When you configure a backup job, the Small Business Server Backup or Restore Wizard displays a dialog box that notifies you what permissions must be configured on the network share. However, the Small Business Server Backup or Restore Wizard does not display this dialog box if the server has a tape backup drive installed.

To make sure that the Domain Admins security group has Full Control permissions on the network share and on the NTFS file system where the backup files are saved, follow these steps:
  1. Log on to the network share computer as a user with administrator rights.
  2. Right-click the shared folder, and then click Sharing and Security.
  3. Click the Sharing tab, and then click Permissions. Make sure that the Domain Admins security group has complete Full Control permissions.
  4. Click the Security tab. Make sure that the Domain Admins security group has complete Full Control permissions.
