You receive an "Error, Incorrect command line parameters" error message when you try to install Works 7.0 (886566)



The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Works 7.0, when used with:
    • the operating system: Microsoft Windows 2000
    • the operating system: Microsoft Windows 98

SYMPTOMS

When you insert the Microsoft Works 7.0 program CD into your CD drive to install Works 7.0, the Works 7.0 installation program does not start. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
Error, Incorrect command line parameters.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, clean boot your Microsoft Windows 2000-based or Microsoft Windows 98-based computer. After you clean boot your computer, install Works 7.0.

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Clean boot your Windows 2000-based or Windows 98-based computer.

  2. In Microsoft Windows Explorer, locate the Works7.msi file on the Works 7.0 program CD.

    Note The Works7.msi file is located in the following folder on the Works 7.0 program CD:

    drive:\Msworks\

    In this example, drive is the drive letter of your CD drive.
  3. Double-click the Works7.msi file to install Works 7.0.
  4. After the Works 7.0 installation has completed successfully, restart your computer as you typically would.
