You receive an "Autorun setup has encountered a problem and needs to close" error message when you install Age of Empires II (886553)

CAUSEThis issue may occur if the Microsoft Age of Empires II registry entries already exist in the Windows registry.RESOLUTIONWarning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. To resolve this issue, remove the program, delete the Age of Empires II registry entries and program folder, and then reinstall the program. To do this, follow these steps. Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
- Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
- Click Add or Remove Programs.
- In the Currently installed programs list, click the Age of Empires II program that you want to remove, and then click Remove.
Note Repeat this step for each program that is listed in the "Applies to" section if they are installed. - Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate and then delete the following registry subkeys if they exist:

- In Microsoft Windows Explorer, delete the following folder:
drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires II - Reinstall the Microsoft Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings and Microsoft Age of Empires II Expansion: The Conquerors.
