You receive an error message when you try to listen to an Audible book in Reader (886476)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to listen to an Audible book in Microsoft Reader, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
The Audible book you are trying to listen to was activated for another user.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if you did not install the Audible Manager software.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps.

Step 1: Remove the Audible Manager software from your computer and Microsoft Pocket PC-based device

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type Appwiz.cpl, and the click OK.
  2. Under Currently installed programs, click AudibleManager, click Change/Remove, click Yes, and then follow the prompts to finish removing the Audible Manager software from your computer.
  3. On your Pocket PC-based device, tap Start, tap Settings, and then tap Remove Programs on the System tab.
  4. Tap Audible, Inc. AudiblePlayer, and then tap Remove.

Step 2: Delete Audible book files from your computer

To delete Audible book files from your computer, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type Cmd.exe, and then click OK.
  2. At the command prompt, type cd\, and then press ENTER.
  3. At the command prompt, type del *.aa /s, and then press ENTER.

    Note This command will delete all the files on your computer that have the *.aa extension. Do not perform step 3 if other files on your computer have the *.aa extension.
  4. Type Exit, and then press ENTER.
