You receive an error message when you try to start Reader for the Pocket PC, version 2.0 (886475)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to start Microsoft Reader for the Pocket PC, version 2.0, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:

You have an older version of Pocket PC which does not support Activation. Activation requires Pocket PC 2002 or later.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:

The operating system on your Microsoft Windows CE-based device is not Microsoft Pocket PC 2002 or a later version.
The version of Microsoft ActiveSync that is installed on your computer is out-of-date.

RESOLUTION

Verify that your Windows CE-based device is based on Microsoft Windows CE for Pocket PC 2002 or a later version

To verify the version of the operating system that is running on your Windows CE-based device, follow these steps:

Tap Start, and then tap Settings.
On the System tab, tap About.
Under About, verify the operating system information.

If the operating system is Version 3.0 or a later version, your device supports the activation of Reader for the Pocket PC, version 2.0.

Note If your Windows CE-based device is based on Microsoft Windows 3.0, the build number must be a five-digit number for your device to be compatible with Pocket PC 2002 programs.
