You cannot access the secondary functions of your multifunction printer through the VM Printer Additions driver in Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 (886376)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac Version 7
SYMPTOMSYou have an all-in-one printer or a multifunction printer
that is connected to your Macintosh computer through the USB port. You cannot use the VM
Printer Additions driver in Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 to access the
secondary functions of the multifunction printer, such as faxing, scanning, and
copying. CAUSEThis problem occurs in Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 because the VM
Printer Additions driver only supports printing to a multifunction printer that is connected
to your Macintosh computer through a USB port. This problem occurs even when you
have configured USB printing for the multifunction printer and when you use the printer
driver software for your multifunction printer. USB printing only supports
printing and does not support the secondary functions of multifunction
printers.WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, you must connect your
multifunction printer to your Macintosh computer through a network or a wireless
network connection. You may then be able to access the secondary
functions of this printer through the printer software.
Contact your
multifunction printer manufacturer for more information about setting up a
network printer driver in Microsoft Windows XP. The Setup program for most
multifunction printers will automatically help you connect and configure the multifunction printer software for use over a network
connection.
