SYMPTOMS

When you import a Microsoft Windows XP disk image into Microsoft Virtual PC for Mac Version 7, it may take longer than expected for the logon screen to appear. The virtual machine may seem to stop responding.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • You created the disk image in an earlier version of Virtual PC for Mac.
  • The Update Rollup 1 for Windows XP is installed on the disk image.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

When you import a disk image, Virtual PC for Mac Version 7 updates the hardware drivers and the system device drivers, including keyboard drivers and mouse drivers. This process can take 10 to 30 minutes. During this time, your keyboard and your mouse may not work as expected. Do not restart the virtual machine during this process.
