The Display Properties window disappears when you change the resolution of your screen in Windows XP (886248)

SYMPTOMS
When you change the resolution of your screen, the Display Properties dialog box disappears, and you cannot change the resolution again.CAUSE
This problem may occur if the Display Properties dialog box is in the bottom part of the screen when you change the resolution of your screen from a higher resolution to a lower resolution. The problem occurs because the Display Properties dialog box may not reposition itself correctly.WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, follow these steps: - Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, and then click Log Off two times to log off your computer.
- Log on to your computer.
- Click Start, click Run, type desk.cpl, and then click OK.
- Click the Settings tab, and then drag the slider to specify the screen resolution that you want.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
