SYMPTOMSWhen you try to release and then renew the IP address of a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) client computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional, you may receive the following error message: An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket. This issue may occur if Internet Security Systems' BlackICE Defender program is installed on your computer. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, follow these steps to uninstall BlackICE Defender: - Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- On the Change or Remove Programs tab, click BlackICE Defender in the list of installed programs, and then click Remove.
- Restart the computer.
