Hotfix

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Systems Management Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.

Installation information
You must manually run a SQL Server update script after you install this hotfix. To install this hotfix and run the update script, follow these steps on each SMS 2003 site server in your hierarchy.Install the hotfix
- Copy the Sms2003-sp1-kb886197-x86-enu.exe file to a local folder on the site server or to a shared network folder.
- On the SMS site server computer, open the local folder or the shared network folder that contains the Sms2003-sp1-kb886197-x86-enu.exe file.
- Double-click the Sms2003-sp1-kb886197-x86-enu.exe file to start the hotfix installation wizard.
Stop SMS services
- On the SMS site server computer, click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
- Stop the SMS_EXECUTIVE and the SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER services.
Run the SQL Server update script
- On the SMS site database server, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server, and then click Query Analyzer.
- If you are prompted to do this, connect to the SQL Server, and then click OK.
- On the File menu, click Open, and then locate the \SMS\Logs\KB886197 folder.
- Click Update.sql, and then click Open.
- On the Query menu, click Change Database.
- Click the SMS database, and then click OK.
- On the Query menu, click Execute.
- On the SMS site server computer, start the SMS_EXECUTIVE and the SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER services.
