You cannot upgrade a site to advanced security in Systems Management Server 2003 (886096)

SYMPTOMSYour Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 site is deployed on a remote computer that is running Microsoft SQL Server. When you upgrade this site from standard security to advanced security, the upgrade may not be successful. For example, after you upgrade the site to advanced security, you may not be able to use a targeted push installation to install a client.CAUSEThis problem occurs if all the following are true: - The SMS provider is installed on the computer
that is running SQL Server.
- You upgrade to advanced security by using the Administrator console.
- The administrator manually deletes the account that is used by the computer that is running SQL Server to access the site server.
RESOLUTION

WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, use the SMS 2003 Setup program instead of the Administrator console to upgrade your site from standard security to advanced security.
