Modified properties of a Systems Management Server 2003 program are not saved (886094)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003

SYMPTOMS

You modify the properties for a Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2003 program, but the modifications are not saved.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when all the following conditions are true:
  • You modify the properties for the program when the SMS Administrator Console is connected to a child site.
  • You modify the properties for a program that was created on a parent site and that has replicated to the child site that you are connected to.
  • You import a Microsoft Windows Installer product code on the Windows Installer tab for the program that was created on a parent site.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, you must modify the properties of the program when the SMS Administrator Console is connected to the parent site where the package that contains the program was created.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

When you connect the SMS Administrator Console to a child site, and then you modify the properties of a program that was created on a parent site, the SMS Administrator Console does not permit modifications to the program properties. However, this behavior does not occur on the Windows Installer tab. Although you can click Import on the Windows Installer tab and you can import a Windows Installer product code, the program properties are not modified when you click OK.

To make modifications to the Windows Installer product code for a package, modify the program properties when the SMS Administrator Console is connected to the site where the package that contains the program was created.
